It is the policy of AISM to admit students that are able to benefit from the educational offerings of our institution. Admission to AISM does not guarantee admission to the MD program. How much will the Medical Program Cost?

  • Student’s Liability Insurance for Clinical Semesters (2 years @ $1,500 per year)

Other Fees which are variable costs include: Physician Bag with instruments, Clinical Attire, Textbooks per semester, Air-fare, Transportation, Food, Boarding and Lodging, Personal supplies.
Refund Policy There is no refund for application fees paid. A 25% is refunded on tuition if the student request to discontinue classes during the first month of the academic term. CARICOM Nationals and students of Guyanese parentage can apply for the CARICOM MD Award. Students granted awards are NOT eligible for refund on tuition. Visit our Tuition & Fees page
Is Financial Aid available for this program? At present there is no federal financial aid program available to US students. Canadian students can apply for Financial Aid from their respective provinces. However students can benefit from the AISM Payment Plan, which requires an initial 100% payment on the first semester tuition which is paid one month prior to the commencement of the 1st semester. For the remaining semesters the Finance Director upon consultation will determine and advice on a payment schedule throughout the MD program.
What is the Application Process? Candidates for admission must complete the AISM application form (application fee is US $150.00) Copy of Birth Certificate. 2 passport photographs, signed at the back. 2 letters of recommendations from college professors or Advisors. Official transcript(s) of all previous academic work (from each college, university or professional school attended). To be mailed directly to AISM from the issuing institution and bearing the raised seal of the institution. Official report of scores on the Medical College Admission Test (Optional). Official Report of scores on the TOEFL (applicants whose educational background has been in languages other than English. Current Résumé. Official Transcript from prior medical school (for advanced standing placement). Health Certificate for proof of Immunization. A police report (documentation of no criminal record) from your local police department. Apply for Admission
Is the Medical Degree Program accredited? AISM is listed with the World Health Organization (WHO) and is registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana. AISM has successfully addressed the requirements of the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and obtained permission for its students to sit the United States Licensing Examination USMLE. Graduates from AISM can also sit for the British Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) and other Licensing Board Examination necessary for registration/certification, specific to that particular country or region.
What is AISM Admission Policy? AISM has a solid open admissions policy. The school serves students without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, religion, disability, or age to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally made available to students at the School in keeping with its goals of providing quality and affordable education and training. Student’s enrollment is based on academic skills assessments, interviews, previous achievement and other criteria.Visit our Admissions page
What are the requirements for Pre-Medical Certificate? Students who do not meet the standards for admissions into the MD program may enroll in the Pre-Medical Program designed to help them qualify. Before registering for a Program at AISM a student must be admitted to the AISM. Full admission will be granted upon the applicant satisfying the pre-requisite requirements. Application for admission can occur anytime during the year. Applications are reviewed and evaluated on a rolling basis.
I have never been to Guyana. What’s there to do? There’s lots to do in, and many places to visit, in Guyana. Guyana provides the perfect mix of education and recreation/relaxation.
